2025 NFL Week 1

Sep 05, 2025

It started. Another NFL season. Thank the good lord.

Cowboys @ Eagles (-8.5)

Before the first play of the game, Jalen Carter has been disqualified for spitting on Dak Prescott. Amazing. Are these Eagles are mentally ready to defend their championship?

Eagles pass rushers are breaking through the defensive line on quite a few snaps, despite missing the services of their best pass rusher in Jalen Carter.

The Dak-CeeDee Lamb connection has been fantastic in the first quarter. In general, these Eagle cornerbacks cannot keep up with the Dallas wide receivers.

Owa Odigueza can be credited with a partial disruption. Other than that, it seems like the Dallas pass rush has been gutless tonight. Kenny Clark hasn't shown up in this respect.

Jordan Davis can be credited with two full disruptions and one partial disruption.

Zack Baun and Reed Blankenship are in pretty good form. Baun prevented two plays that could have been converted into touchdowns.

The blitz has been very effective against the Eagles. It's just that in true Eberflus fashion, these Cowboys aren't really invoking the blitz much.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia has been pretty good at mixing and matching up blitzes with stunts. Consider this a testament to Vic Fangio's mastery of defensive playcalling.

Losing Landon Dickerson midway through the third quarter has hurt the Eagles interior offensive push.

Chargers vs. Chiefs (-3) [Brazil]

Daiyon Henley is still very much in elite form. He's had multiple statement plays, including a critical disruption on a third down.

Spagnuolo seems to have adjusted in the second half by putting two defenders in coverage against Ladd McConkey.

Speaking of McConkey, it's bizarre seeing the Chargers pass as much as they have in the first half. But perhaps this is their way to throw the Chiefs off by changing up their identity.

Andy Reid loves his west coast offense, doesn't he? Then again, all the emphasis on the quick passing may be a result of Xavier Worthy being knocked out of the game early. Without Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice currently suspended, Mahomes has no choice but to pass the ball to the likes of Hollywood Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster.

With Jawaan Taylor manning the right side of the offensive line and a rookie first-rounder stationed on the left, the Chiefs still present with issues along their offensive front.

The Chargers pass rush is worth keeping an eye on. Tuli Tuipulotu and Teair Tart both need to be watched. Each player has occasionally flashed on tape.

Daiyan Henley is a blue-chip linebacker. I need to consult my notes from last season, but I do believe he can be unquestionably called a blue-chip linebacker.

Buccaneers @ Falcons (+1.5)

Poor fourth-down play call by the Falcons, running inside zone against the Buccaneers with Vita Vea manning the middle.

Michael Penix can run. In fact, it's been a critical difference-maker in this game.

Antoine Winfield came up big when it mattered.

Bengals @ Browns (+5.5)

Bad defensive discipline by the Browns led to a wide open touchdown.

Flacco has been excellent on the improvisational plays.

Cleveland's field-goal kicker is a major liability. Then again, their receivers haven't done them too many favors either. I think the strength of their offense are their runners.

Panthers @ Jaguars (-3.5)

Poor throw by Bryce led to an interception.

Panthers receivers seem to lack physicality. Twice they dropped catchable passes under duress.

Jaguars willing to blitz cornerbacks.

I need to see if Jacksonville is becoming a run-first team, especially given that Trevor is pretty mobile himself.

Giants @ Commanders (-7.5)

Russell Wilson is scared of contact. Not only that, but his mobility is severely limited. Very disappointing.

Lions @ Packers (-1.5)

Detroit isn't the same force running the ball. Perhaps there's too many new pieces on their offensive line? I have to investigate. On top of that, the protection isn't quite holding up now that Micah Parsons is being shifted all over the place.

Not sure why Detroit isn't utilizing the hurry-up offense more in order to throw off Green Bay's defense.

This Green Bay defensive front is truly something now that Micah Parsons is there.

On top of that, the offense remains promising with Josh Jacobs, Romeo Doubs, and Christian Watkins.

Ravens @ Bills (PK)

The mass of the Ravens is proving too much to handle. Add on top of that a healthy Zay Flowers and this match was never in contest, despite the Bills striking first.

Meanwhile...Joey Bosa has been nothing but trash, as expected.

Very striking to see the Bills edge rushers constantly chase the runner on the backside. Leaving Lamar unattended is way too dangerous a risk.

Titans @ Broncos (-8.5)

Titans coach Brian Callahan failed to realize that an elbow does equal two feet when it comes to a successful reception. Very disappointing considering most fans understand that.

Vikings @ Bears (-1.5)

Darnell Mooney as the Bears right tackle might be a liability.

It's clear Ben Johnson doesn't quite trust Caleb Williams yet with advanced quarterbacking concepts. The offense so far has been fairly simple and defined more by zone runs than dropback passing. It remains to be seen whether Caleb can actually evolve into a capable quarterback given his personal issues and uncontrolled ego.

Then again, it's also possible Ben Johnson understands pitting Caleb's wits against Brian Flores' defense will not end well.

Steelers @ Jets (+2.5)

This Jets offense is so much better than what I thought. Justin Fields and Breece Hall have been phenomenal as a rushing duo, especially up against a Steelers defense that may be one of the best-prepared units starting the season. This Pittsburgh team had to be keenly aware New York is going to run the ball down their throat and yet they were sort of helpless to stop it.

Quinnen Williams is a blue-chip player. Will McDonald IV and Jermaine Johnson II are red-chip players worth keeping an eye on.

Alex Highsmith starting out the season on a positive note.

Raiders @ Patriots (+2)

The Raiders look good. Geno Smith is his usual boom-and-bust self. His willingness to throw the ball in harm's way is still very much there.

Chip Kelly is surprisingly willing to pass it more often early, though that decision may in part be driven by the fact that Vegas starting tailback is a rookie (Ashton Jeatty).

Patriots look decent too, but Drake Maye still has a ways to go when it comes to playing consistently at a high level.

Neither defense has players that stand out much aside from the obvious ones - Maxx Crosby on the Raiders and Milton Williams for the Patriots.

Boutte is clearly Drake Maye's favorite target.

Josh McDaniels clearly loves swinging the ball out to tailbacks. I respect the way he has other receivers running routes in such a way so as to try and maximize space in the flat for his tailbacks to operate.
